At Green Platter, our journey began with a simple but powerful question: How can we enjoy life’s celebrations without harming the planet we love? Watching single‑use plastics piling up in landfills and washing into our seas, we knew there had to be a better way. Inspired by nature’s ingenuity, we discovered bagasse—the fibrous residue left over after sugarcane juice extraction. Once treated as agricultural waste, bagasse is now valued as a renewable, compostable raw material. By transforming this by‑product into high‑performance plates, bowls and takeaway boxes, we reduce landfill waste and support a circular manufacturing process.
What sets bagasse apart is its gentle footprint. The pulp is made from renewable sugarcane fibres; it is compostable within about 90 days, PFAS‑free and safe for hot or cold foods. Because it originates from natural plants rather than fossil fuels, its greenhouse‑gas emissions are significantly lower than those of conventional plastics, making it a truly low‑carbon material. Even better, bagasse products biodegrade back into nutrient‑rich soil within months, leaving no toxic traces. Every plate and clamshell we produce embodies our belief that small choices can have a big impact.
Green Platter was born from a desire to serve wholesome food in packaging that honours the Earth. Our founders, long‑time foodies and environmentalists, started with local markets and community gatherings, sharing meals on compostable plates. People loved the convenience and the feel‑good factor of reducing waste. From those early days, our mission grew: to make eco‑friendly tableware accessible to households, cafés and caterers across the U.K.
Today, Green Platter offers a complete line of compostable tableware made from bagasse and other plant‑based materials. When you choose our products, you’re not just buying plates—you’re taking part in a movement. You’re turning “waste” into something useful, cutting down on plastic pollution, and sending a message that businesses can thrive while caring for the planet. We invite you to join us in serving green and living clean.
